MESSAGE:Mr. Daryl, thanks for teaching me about stealth! If I see any rats or jerks, I'll be sure to take care of them with a Maya Chop! ... Sneakily, of course. You're a nice guy even if you're gruff, so I hope your world isn't nasty or anything like that.
CONTACT: martin.septim@kernos.net MESSAGE:Forgive me for acting the way I did the first time we spoke. I'm returning the bottle of liquor you gave me. I'll still heal you. Or, if you're no longer interested in that, I have books.
[ Minutes later, after he's had some time to think—it isn't as if this is a secret anymore. Still less shameful than the whole truth. And acceptance is good for the source. ] I used to be an addict. Drugs, alcohol, sex. I wasn't strong enough to resist Hyperion's blood.
I'll take care of the weapons. You two just keep up the cleaning. Best to get some order around this place for once.
I've been walking. Just around the campus. Those cultists are being a real pain down in the city. Or so I hear. Figured I should stay out of the public eye for a bit, until I can move proper.
You're right. It's a nice change of pace for once.
And I don't have a deathwish. Of course I'm playing it safe.
Actually, I've been spending more time in the greenhouse. It's not much, but it's something to look forward to. [And something to care for. It's a piece of nostalgia that hasn't quite left him. It reminds him of home and of Georgia; the sunlight; Lori's small hands.]
You're right about that. I haven't really been much of a survivor, have I?
It's just outside campus grounds. At least, it was. Most of this new forestry has got it all mussed up. We were trying to grow some tomatoes, some herbs. Nothing seems to take, though. Might be that the ground is too acidic.
[Rick isn't a farmer, but he's learned a thing or two.]
Still ain't sure what they think they're getting outta this. Some sick sorta entertainment?
I remember running into a bunch of those guys the first week I was here. It was near that antique store that had a photo of my family. For some reason. Still haven't straightened that out.
She sure is. She's been asking me about ziplines. Thought I might introduce her to Jim. You know him at all?
part of me doesnt want to know the answer to that.
i remember that. i offered to help get it with you. they kept low for a while after that.
yeah, its hard not to. we fought alongside each other back on the ship when shit went to hell. had that still up an running for oh... less than a week. i remember him talking about ziplines when we got here. its been a while.
I'd rather get a straight answer than none. But maybe that's the point. They wanna leave us frustrated. Desperate.
He gets himself into an awful lot of trouble. I haven't spoken to him in a few days either. And compared to him, my track record is unimpressive. He up and kicks the bucket every other day seems like.

Hershel would have made a lot of things easier, I think. We've got our fair share of doctors here, but nobody like him.
I still check the railroad sometimes. See if anyone we know crossed over. Just not sure if things would be any better for them here than back home.
